Multi-warehouse
Ability of an ecommerce or inventory system to manage stock across multiple locations (warehouses, physical stores) simultaneously.
02/Full definition
Multi-warehouse lets a single system control inventory across multiple physical locations: central warehouse, stores, satellite depots. When a sale happens, the system knows which warehouse to ship from, correctly deducts stock, and can suggest transfers between warehouses. For ecommerce it's critical if you have a physical store + online sales — without multi-warehouse you sell things you don't have and oversell.
03/In Costa Rica context
Adding multi-warehouse to a custom ecommerce costs USD 1,500–3,000 depending on warehouse count and rules (prioritization by distance to customer, transfer cost, etc.). Shopify Plus has it native; Shopify Basic requires external apps (USD 30–80/mo). For B2B with >1,000 SKUs and several warehouses, custom is usually more efficient long-term.

When do I need multi-warehouse?▾
If you have 2+ physical locations with their own inventory, or sell online and in physical store simultaneously, multi-warehouse is mandatory. Without it you sell what you don't have.
